Project Description
Overlooking the lake, just above Lugano, a 1970s apartment has been given a new lease of life through a renovation that completely redefines its living space. The project interprets the space with a measured balance between contemporary warmth and tailored functionality, creating a welcoming, fluid, and profoundly contemporary environment.
The heart of the home is the large open space, where the living room and kitchen seamlessly interact. The living room, gathered around a compact corner fireplace, becomes a convivial space, while the custom-designed and handcrafted kitchen stands out for its large marble island topped by a suspended light oak snack bar. A composition conceived to combine aesthetics and performance, where every element responds to the needs of everyday life with effortless elegance.
The warm and textured oak parquet flooring runs throughout the home, amplifying the sense of continuity. Between the kitchen columns, a pocket door discreetly leads to the master bedroom, conceived as an intimate and private space, complete with an en suite bathroom.
The master bathroom, clad in travertine-effect stoneware, is designed as a refined and dramatic space. The bathtub, illuminated from the base, appears suspended in space, while the details—from the faucets positioned on the windowsill to the mosaic floor that captures the light—contribute to a sophisticated atmosphere. The architect-designed mirror integrates storage units and panels alternating between mirrored surfaces and wood inserts, illuminated by delicate spherical wall lights that diffuse a soft light.
In the eldest daughter’s bedroom, custom-made furnishings create a harmonious balance between study and relaxation. The essential, timeless lines accompany her growth, while the bed, with padded paneling, introduces a refined interplay of textures and nuances in the velvets.
Particular attention was paid to the lighting design, designed to minimize recesses and preserve the original height of the rooms while integrating the systems. The original natural stone floors give way to a custom-stained oak parquet, developed specifically for the project, while the lacquered doors, with angular frames, reflect light, enhancing the material.
The fireplace, designed with a shallow depth, is an ideal solution for small spaces: compact yet dramatic, it offers a wide view of the fire thanks to the corner glass, ensuring an intense visual experience with minimal space.
The entire project is permeated by careful and consistent color research. The neutral shades, balanced across the walls, fabrics, and furnishings, define a sophisticated and contemporary palette, capable of reflecting the taste and lifestyle of a young and evolving family.
