Project Description
In the heart of Carovigno, Casa Trisolini gives new life to a ground-floor home dating from the late 19th century. This restoration project engages with the area’s architectural identity, preserving the home’s original character while introducing a contemporary language that is pared back and restrained.
The architecture is defined by façades of local limestone, whose warm, luminous tones reflect a building tradition deeply rooted in the Puglian landscape. Inside, the star-vaulted ceilings, rising to around 4.5 metres, shape the character of the rooms and heighten the sense of space. The geometry of the ceilings, the solidity of the stone and the tactile quality of the surfaces form the heritage from which the project takes shape.
The renovation is guided by a principle of subtraction: preserving what tells the story of the house and allowing its proportions, volumes and light to define the space. New elements are introduced without competing with the existing architecture. Essential forms and carefully judged details lead the historic home towards a more contemporary way of living.
In the kitchen, a linear stainless-steel composition brings a note of material precision and restraint. Its discreet, functional presence converses with the irregular texture of the historic surfaces, while a slender floating shelf creates a horizontal line above the worktop, lightly counterbalancing the verticality of the vaults. In the bathroom, the terrazzo basin, cast in situ, becomes a sculptural feature, bringing the tactile quality of craftsmanship together with a contemporary sensibility.
The 15-square-metre inner courtyard also plays a central role, conceived as a natural extension of the domestic spaces. The landscape design, developed by Rebediani Scaccabarozzi Landscape, gives renewed value to this intimate space, transforming it into a place for quiet and contemplation, in constant dialogue with the interiors.
The project is completed by the work of a local carpenter, who restored the windows and doors, bringing out their original forms while preserving the marks of time. This skilled craftsmanship highlights the value of local expertise and the possibility of renewal without erasure.
Casa Trisolini thus brings permanence and transformation into balance. A holiday home where the memory of Puglian tradition is not nostalgia, but a living material, ready to welcome new everyday rituals. Here, contemporary design does not seek contrast, but a quiet relationship with what is already there: a measured project in which every element finds its place and simplicity becomes a form of elegance.
